The UU Fellowship of Winston-Salem strives to become a fully inclusive, compassionate faith community known for working boldly and deeply for justice, foster spiritual growth, care for each other, protect and preserve the earth, and work for peace and justice. As part of their morning forum, Jay Niver will be leading a discussion about Final Exit Network (FEN) and how FEN can help with end-of-life choices and challenges.

Vision and Mission To build an engaged, caring community of members who want to remain in their homes as they age. To provide members with opportunities to make and strengthen social connections, explore educational and cultural activities, and engage in shared interests with friends. To provide volunteers who perform services that help members remain in their homes with dignity. The Aging Well group requested a free presentation to learn more about FEN in general.

This will be a Zoom event during which Lowrey Brown, FEN's Client Services Director, will be discussing the exit guide program and the legal issues they wrestle with.

Dave Warnock and his partner, Bevin, will be joining us on November 19th from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM! "Dave Warnock was caught up in the Jesus movement of the 70s and lived the bulk of his life as a Charismatic Evangelical, serving as a pastor on three different church staffs. Following several years of internal struggle, Dave came to the conclusion in 2011 that he no longer believed in a personal God. In 2019 he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), a progressive neurodegenerative disease with an average 3-5 year life expectancy. Dave is spending the days he has left speaking out about the dangers and harm of fundamental religions, with a focus on Evangelical Christianity. He also seeks to provide a safe haven to those questioning their faith, recovering from religious trauma or navigating life's tribulations as he shares his own perspective as a former ex-evangelical, but now an atheist, facing a terminal diagnosis." The UU Congregation of Duluth is an open-minded, open-hearted, multigenerational spiritual community helping each other lead lives of love, justice, learning, and hope. He will review the principles and methods of FEN, and provide opportunities for questions and discussion during their Adult Forum. Carol Woods is an inclusive community that promotes an active lifestyle supported by the area’s educational, cultural, and medical resources. A commitment to well-being enables residents to pursue activities that support a sense of individual fulfillment and purpose. Situated on 120 wooded acres in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Carol Woods is an accredited not-for-profit continuing care retirement community. Carol Woods was founded in 1979 by a group of local residents wanting to retire to Chapel Hill. It is governed by a local, all-volunteer board of directors entrusted with ultimate fiduciary responsibility. Attendees of this presentation will learn about Final Exit Network, medical aid in dying and efforts in North Carolina to get it passed, and other end of life options.

This event will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno, CA, a liberal faith community that honors the inherent worth and dignity of all people, believing that all life is interconnected and interdependent, called to prioritize and protect the most vulnerable among us. They believe all of us are called to help shape a more just and compassionate world for all people. During this presentation, participants will learn more about Final Exit Network in general.
