Conference on Religious Trauma

Final Exit Network is a sponsor of this event and has a booth in the Exhibit Hall. The goals for CORT include educating therapists and lay persons about religious trauma syndrome and connecting survivors of religious trauma with qualified therapists and resources to aid in recovery.  For more information on the Vision, please refer to the Vision Statement here. They have gathered an exciting array of speakers ranging from pioneers in the field of religious trauma and undue influence to survivors of religious fundamentalism who are eager to share their personal stories of trauma, recovery, and hope with you. You are encouraged to explore the Exhibitor Hall, where you will see resources including books, products, workshops, art, and more related to healing and recovery from religious trauma syndrome and undue influence.

Death and Dementia: Alternate Approaches

EVENT DETAILS Our panel will present alternate perspectives on end-of-life options for individuals diagnosed with dementia and answer questions from our audience.  Speakers will include: Kelly Bone in Florida was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 57. Having watched her mother suffer and succumb to Alzheimer’s, she is determined to end her life with dignity on her own terms. Kelly lives in Florida, where MAid is not legal, and is devoted to expanding U.S. laws on medical aid in dying to include patients with dementia. In all states where MAID is legal, patients are required to have full mental capacity. Kelly speaks openly and powerfully about Alzheimer’s disease and has given many interviews as a courageous advocate for reform. Congregation Agudat Achim — Healthy Living Group

The purpose of Congregation Agudat Achim is to serve as a Conservative Jewish congregation for Schenectady County and the surrounding area. Our sacred community is committed to a traditional Jewish practice, while evolving and adapting as a modern Jewish organization. We are an egalitarian, welcoming community caring about the well being of each of our members and the community around us. Opportunities are offered for our members to grow spiritually through religious, educational, recreational, and cultural programs.  Learning opportunities for all ages, knowledge levels, and degrees of religious observance are provided for our members and community. This will be a private Zoom event with Eleanor Aronstein speaking on end-of-life issues.

Humanist Community in Silicon Valley

The Humanist Community in Silicon Valley is a chapter of the American Humanist Association. Established in 1962, it has a long tradition of promoting humanist values while providing interesting educational programs and social events. Jim Van Buskirk from Final Exit Network will be the keynote speaker for this event Because of the Corona Virus "Shelter in Place" situation, we are holding our meeting online via Zoom. End of Life Washington North – Bellingham

End of Life Washington upholds your right to the full range of end of life choices, including Death with Dignity, through advocacy, education, and support. This will be a private Zoom event with Tom Tuxill, FEN Board Member, speaking about our exit guide services.

Unitarian Universalist General Assembly

General Assembly is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists. Last year, General Assembly had more than 4,900 registered attendees participate from remote locations around the world. This is a virtual event during which Final Exit Network will have a booth in the Exhibit Hall. FEN Board Member, Kevin Bradley, will manage the booth and showcase FEN's mission  and services.

The Original Afterlife Awareness Conference

Since 2010, The Afterlife Conference has served as an educational, social, and spiritual gathering place for hospice professionals, physicians, mediums, clergy, counselors, and alternative healers to offer a deeper understanding of death and beyond. Final Exit Network is a sponsor of this event and Exit Guide Services Director, Lowrey Brown, is featured in a videotaped interview that will be available to all conference attendees, as well as the members and followers of The Afterlife Education Foundation. The 2021 Afterlife Conference will once again be a virtual event, running from June 24 - 27.

River West Village (Private Event)

River West Village is part of the national Village Movement of neighbors working together to offer age-friendly options for older adults to successfully live safely and independently in their homes in SW Portland while living full and meaningful lives. Villagers make new friends close to home by getting together for coffee, walks, discussion, happy hour and outings. Volunteers do tasks friends and family might do including transportation, household chores, and technology assistance. River West is one of eight Villages in the Villages NW network in the greater Portland metropolitan area. This will be a private Zoom event with Janis Landis speaking on end-of-life challenges and choices; e.g., a hospital vs a hospice; assumptions, choices, consequences, pitfalls, and considerations for seniors.

After taking a one year hiatus due to the global pandemic, we are excited to announce that the 3rd EA Retreat is scheduled for August 27 – 30 (Fri-Mon) at the same cabin venue from 2018. For those who are not familiar, see the discussion below view pictures from previous retreats to give you a sense of what to expect. However, the bunk room (full size beds) has several openings, and there is even spillover space for sofa sleepers and twin trundles.
