Mary Ewert, PhD is the Executive Director of Final Exit Network. Her interest in the right to die movement stems from personal experience as the primary caregiver for her husband. Following a diagnosis of rapidly advancing ALS, they traveled to Dignitas in Switzerland, where he achieved a peaceful death on his own terms. His story is told in the PBS Frontline documentary, The Suicide Tourist.

Mary’s professional experience includes various leadership roles at several large nonprofits, including the American Bar Association. She holds a master’s degree in International and European Politics from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD in Law from Keele University in England.
